Today I finished up the review for Pursuit To Algiers. This is another one that I liked a lot more on the repeat viewing – it’s very well written and has a lot of nice touches. It also led me to dig out a lot of trivia that I’d not known – did you know Nigel Bruce (who plays Watson) was descended from the medieval kings of Scotland? It’s even relevant to the film!
The review of the 11th Sherlock Holmes film from Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce is complete: The Woman In Green. Featuring quite a few familiar faces, with a plot revolving around serial killings, blackmail and hypnosis. Darker fare than usual, but still a good one!
Today’s Sherlock review is of The Pearl of Death, which is a fan favourite not only for itself, but also as a crossover with the more standard universal fare of monster movies, in the form of Rondo Hatton as The Hoxton Creeper.
Finally finished the review of The Scarlet Claw. One of the most lauded of the Rathbone and Bruce series of Sherlock Holmes films, not my absolute favourite but definitely a highlight. Holmes and Watson go to Canada on the track of a mysterious and murderous apparition.
