Today I wrote a pitch to Overthinking It on an article about the Rubberbandits. I also wrote about half the article. If they don’t accept it, I will write the article anyway and stick it up here – same as I did with the last two articles I pitched them, and the one that I didn’t think was good enough to pitch. If they accept it, of course, it’ll go up on their site. Excelsior!

Today’s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
Spent most of the day dealing with automobile shenanigans, so plans to write a draft to pitch to OverthinkingIt went out the window. Instead, some rearrangement of a delicate discussion of illegal sexualities in 1920s Ireland.
Today’s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
Half a chapter done, cops being cops. Also more foreshadowing for stuff I am going to add.
Today’s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
I recommend How Not To Write A Novel to everyone. In unrelated news I need to figure out an alternative for a bit of this chapter.
Today’s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
Also a bunch of research into the Irish Civil war, which basically made me realise I didn’t want to touch the Irish Civil War. Which makes it handy that the main thing I found out was that nobody in 1928 would have brought it up without a damn good reason to do so. Five years is not long enough for those wounds to heal.

Grinding my way through.
Today;s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
Lots of red writing through chapter 22, ready to tighten it up and make it plot relevant. It’s actually not that bad as is, just not quite in tune with the new plot.
Today’s Scribbling: End of an Empire – The Fall of Byzantium
Today is the last installment in the Brief Guide to Byzantium. Not to give away any spoilers, but it’s called End of an Empire – The Fall of Byzantium, which does not look good for our plucky backstabbing politicos.
I had a lot of fun writing these, I am tempted to do more. Possibly Macedonians or Assyrians next.
Today’s Scribbling: Novel Research and Writing
Specifically a research into the state of anaesthetics in 1928. Writing to learn, me. So no new content, because I was doing some coding today as well. Tomorrow I may finish off Byzantium, though. We shall see.
Today’s Scribbling: Novel Rewrites
Yeah, plugging on through this. Managed to turn one of the most awkward conversations in the book into something that human beings might conceivably say to each other. Progress!
