Today’s Odd Side of Donegal is about the last King of Donegal and his formidable mother. It’s called The Dark Daughter and the Red King and is recommended for anyone who thinks Game of Thrones is unrealistic.

I just discovered The Dark Daughter was my 13th great-grandmother! Im so excited to learn about her! I kinda look like her based on the 1 picture I’ve seen. I would love to see more pics. If u know how I can see some, please let me know. Im still researching on ancestry.com to get more info. All my family info on ancestry100% lines up with ur piece. I am beyond thrilled to learn of her (and all my ancestors) but I have to say… she is what I needed to find out about right now! I feel like she has my back during a very rough time, when I felt as if I were fighting all alone. Ty so much for writing this!
Hi Katina,
I’m not aware of any contemporary pictures of Inion Dubh, I’m afraid! She was played by Marie Kean in the 1966 Disney film “The Fighting Prince of Donegal”. Not a very accurate film, but fun in its way. Glad you enjoyed the article!
